Sodium Nitrate

White minute crystal. Partly light gray and partly pale yellow. Relative molecular mass is 84.99 and density is 2.257. It is easily deliquescent. It is soluble in water and liquid ammonium. However very small quantity can be dissolved in ethanol and glycerin. Its melting point is 271°C and its decomposition temperature is 380°C. Sodium nitrate and oxygen are the decomposition products. If it is heated to higher temperature, it decomposes into gas which has strong oxidizing potential.

Handling precaution

2. Do not store this product with acids, metal powders, woods, sandpapers, papers, cane sugars, sulfur, and other materials which can cause fires.
3. Be care of friction and reflection.
4. The fire caused by sodium nitrate can be extinguished with plenty of water.
